The Brisbane Bullets - One of the NBL’s Most Well-Known Teams

A recent addition to the University of Pittsburgh’s men's basketball coaching staff, Jermaine (“Dolla”) Beal served as a coach at the Vanderbilt University Basketball Camp in Nashville. Having played at Vanderbilt as a guard for four years, he helped lead the team to three NCAA tournaments. Jermaine (“Dolla”) Beal went on to enjoy a successful professional career overseas, playing for teams such as Ironi Nes Ziona in Israel and the Brisbane Bullets in Australia.

A longtime member of the National Basketball League (NBL), the Brisbane Bullets formed in 1979 and spent a number of years at the top of the NBL. During their first 30 seasons of play, the Bullets reached the league playoffs more than 20 times and won several championships. Despite the early success, the Bullets organization collapsed in 2008 after the team’s former owner, Eddy Groves, ran into financial troubles.

After more than seven years out of play, the Bullets made their return to the NBL in the 2016-17 season. Today, with a roster of players that includes Perrin Buford, Travis Trice, and Daniel Kickert, the team plays its home games at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre. Some of the most notable players to have worn a Bullets jersey include Leroy Loggins, Ron Radliff, and Larry Sengstock, who all had their numbers permanently retired by the team.
